Niger Delta Oil and Gas giant Shell has indicated possible sale of assets worth $30bn. $2bn of these assets will be from Niger Delta amid dwindling revenues in 2013 as a result of oil theft and reducing refining margin.


Cashless Policy CBN Governor Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi at the yearly meeting of the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) in Lagos gave an update on cashless policy implemented in 2012 and use of Point of sale terminals across the country. He revealed that PoS transactions increased from daily transactions of N5m at the beginning of 2012 to about N3.6bn daily in November of 2013. He said making banking easy, affordable and accessible to everyone is the goal of the CBN.

Politics & National Security

Rivers State State Police command revealed it has apprehended former leader of Rivers State House of Assembly. Honourable Chidi Lloyd is being arrested for the murder of political rival Kingsley Ejeuo and Police Sgt. Urang Obediah.

North East Federal Government will be earmarking N2bn in the 2014 budget for rehabilitation purposes for states affected by Boko Haram insurgency (Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe). Economic activities in these North Eastern states have been crippled since the insurgency began and how this allocation earmarked will make an impact remains in question if the insecurity that currently exists is not taken care of.

APC Power sharing structure in place in the newly formed party seem to be generating internal concern. Defected Peoples Democratic Party governors from Adamawa, Kwara, Kano, and Sokoto seem to not agree with who should be in charge in their states in their new found party and former PDP defectors in Kwara have issues working with Bukola Saraki. They claim the former PDP godfather in his position as party leader in the state was a major reason for their defection initially and are voicing concerns including refusal to work with him if he is eventually designated APC state party leader.

Ogun State Police arrested a 37 year old man for flogging his 20 year old cousin to death on Christmas day. The cousin who was said to have been instructed to save the food for dinner was beaten by his cousin who returned drunk from a friend’s house later that day.

Super Eagles goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama based on statistics was the best goalkeeper in Europe for the 2013/2014 season. The 31 year old played 19 games, conceded eight goals, and kept 14 clean sheets for Lille. He was also voted best player in League 1 twice and holds a staggering saves to goals conceded ratio of seven compared to top goalkeepers like Valdés 4.4, Neuer 3.9, Buffon 2.3, De Sanctis 2.2.
